Originally from the warm, humid tropical forests of Central America, moonlight flower is a cactus that has spectacular flowers. Sometimes, it takes up to 20 years to witness the plant’s first flowers which can reach 40 cm in diameter. The flower blooms only one night a year and releases a powerful vanilla-like fragrance that attracts pollinating insects for the few hours it remains open. Furthermore, its Latin name Selenicereus grandiflorus comes from the Greek goddess of the moon, Selena, as a reference to the flowers blooming only during the night. Its unique aspect does not stop there. This flower was the queen of France, Marie-Antoinette's favourite and she would spend long hours watching the plant. The cactus is known to have different properties, including sedative properties, tonicardiac, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The moonlight flower's fresh flowers are harvested by hand and extracted via a cryoextraction process at -196°C. Remaining at a very low temperature, this extraction process makes it possible to preserve the natural components of the fresh plant and to offer the best possible results.
